Slot Moments: Neily 777 Gets a Handpay on Free Play on Old School Slot

One of the easiest to disprove myths some players like to believe is that you can’t win on free play, or that casinos make machines pay less on free play. While machines can’t differentiate payouts between real cash and free play, it also helps to see that you can not only win on free play, you can get a handpay too!

One of my favorite videos demonstrating this is a video from Neily 777, who played a classic mechanical reels version of Enchanted Unicorn to play down his free play, which in this video was $150 (video segment starts at 5:59).

In this case he was alternating between $2.25 and $4.50 a bet – not massive by any means, and given it was a quarter denomination machine, a decent bet on a decent denomination.

With $150 in free play, that also gives a solid number of spins to make something happen. Fortunately for him, that was the case when the lion and unicorn symbols lined up just right.

On Enchanted Unicorn, a unicorn symbol appearing makes the entire reel wild (they can land in any/all of reels 2, 3 and 4), and he got the unicorn to pop out on the middle three reels while getting the lions and the queens on reels 1 and 5.

They landed in the perfect spot, so he got the five of a kinds for each of those symbols on two lines each. In this version, the exact place the unicorn landed also provides a 2x multiplier, so he got multipliers working in his favor on multiple lines as well!

The end result: He managed to win over $4,000 on a mere $2.25 bet – simply outstanding.

If you don’t get how the hand pay happened, he also walks through how the pays worked out so you can get an understanding. This is not the most complex game, especially being a mechanical reel slot, but there are a few things in play that can make a win special, and Neily certainly accomplished this.
