About Us

The mission of Know Your Slots is simple – to aggregate and share more information about slots and smarter gambling, so you can go to a casino armed with a bit more knowledge than the average player. Whether it means you can discover new aspects of a game you’ve played a lot, or that you can take advantage of a better opportunity than others, making you a smarter player will mean better, more fun trips to the casino.

Slots, like the computers underneath them that run them, have become incredibly sophisticated over the years, a far distance from the “one-armed bandits” with three reels and a limited number of outcomes and ways the game works. But for those who aren’t as savvy with technology, they can feel overwhelming.

My mom tended to favor reel slots because she didn’t really get how line pays worked on many video slots unless someone walked her through it. If you’re like mom, consider Know Your Slots your tutor.

The site covers other gambling-related topics such as comps, travel, gambling myths and navigating casinos, to ensure you’re not just learning about the games and how to make the most of them, but your entire trip can be a fun experience.

Know Your Slots has been featured as a guest expert by a growing number of members of the casino and gambling communities, including the American Casino Guide Book, Art in the Game, The Bettor Life, It’s a Slot Machine, Slot Gypsies Travel, and I’ve even collaborated with some of the slot machine developers, such as Ainsworth and Everi!

New content is available every day at 10 a.m. Eastern time.

About the Creator

Joshua, creator of
Know Your Slots

My name is Joshua, and I work in tech as a marketer by day, and dabbles in casinos periodically during off-times. I stepped into my first casino at the age of 21, like many, went up to a few slots, almost lost all my money, got a hit and walked out with what I came with. My casino adventures have evolved over time, and in recent years I took my first trips to both Las Vegas and Atlantic City, which I now visit more regularly.

In the last few years, as slots have evolved, so has my interest in them. Slots aren’t just push a button and see reels stop format like they were when I first went to the casino more than 15 years ago – you can buy bonuses, trigger a random progressive, have states that are more advantageous to play, even “zap” your way to major wins without slot reels at all.

I also find interesting as someone who spends time in marketing the various ways casinos attempt to woo you in through various offers. Like any marketing system, sometimes the offers are better from one place to another, and sometimes within a given place they’re better day by day. Casino payback is not only the cash you get from a game, but the offers and points you receive from the casino for your play.

As such, Know Your Slots will reflect my interests in understanding the various ways you can play slots, games that give you a potential edge, casino promotions and systems, and how you can get the most out of it. I will share information I’ve spotted in various forums and websites that may help you know a bit more about how something works, and I hope to dispel common myths about casino gambling as we go as well, making sure the right information is out there.
