Enchanted Unicorn: A Classic Slot from IGT

One of the casino games I was drawn to during my earlier days going to a casino is an enduring IGT game that has remained on casino floors in the modern era thanks to remakes on their newer cabinets: Enchanted Unicorn.

Featured in a 20-line configuration most often in its earlier days, and a 30-line configuration more recently, the game is a classic low volatility game with the opportunity for some line hits that would be great pays as bonuses, and a classic picking bonus round.

The game is a 5×3 reel set which features unicorns that double as wild symbols. However, the unicorn expands to fill the whole reel wild if a win would be paid upon expansion. As you can see by the picture above, you can get multiple unicorns in a spin (they can appear on reels 2, 3 and 4), leading to some decent line hits.

Even without all the middle three reels turning wild, there’s the potential for some solid line hits, such as this $40 line hit with a 60 cent bet. Now imagine if you have multiple lines of it from three wild reels, and you can see the potential of the game.

Moons are scatter pay, which you win if you land three or more on a given spin. There’s no free spin bonus, but there is a Treasure Chest picking bonus, earned when a treasure chest appears on reels 1 and 5. There’s five rows, and you pick on each row until you either find a joker (which becomes more prevalent as you go), or reach the top of the treasure chest, where one final prize award is won.

The newer 30-line versions, built by King Show Games, adopt their Hot Roulette mechanic from other slots, which instead you toss a ball into a roulette wheel and earn credits based on what number you hit, with the 0 resetting a wheel and a repeated number ending the bonus. I’ve had some sizable wins on the Hot Roulette bonus as well.

It’s a pretty simple game relative to the modern ones coming out, but then its origins go back decades, so it’s not surprising. There’s a mechanical reel version that’s also out there, albeit quite rare.

  • Hi Joshua–Do you know if the “Enchanted Unicorn” can be played at one of the Online Slot Sites for both Real Money and for Free? I’m talking about the Unicorn Slot I played @ the Meadows Casino near Pittsburgh about 6-7 years ago. You know, the one where everyone hope for the “Ultimate Hit” — a lion on both sides and the 3 expanding Unicorns in the middle. I’m almost 70 and a real lightweight with computers so I hope you get this.
    Thanks,

    • Hi Curt – Enchanted Unicorn is free to play on the DoubleDown Casino, a social casino that features a lot of IGT games. I’m not sure which real money casinos have them, but I’d expect it’s out there given the popularity of the title. Have fun!
